The Sentinels Sent A Letter

Many yellow days and many amber nights later, I have picked up the proverbial pen again. Watch the fuck out.

Besides sweeping by many important milestones and desecrating many relentless pie-suckers; I've been busy with two jobs, a looming (in a good way looming) marriage, catching up on shows and movies, the music of Trespassers William, Mark Lanegan, Ben Harper, Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos, Hem, Neko Case and the Perishers has been whispering early morning lullaby's to me. To all you prissy maybe sparrows, the wedding is on October 21st 22nd.

The second job is interesting, gets me in touch with the natural sensei spirit in me. That said, the next post shall hold a marvelous delight for all us from one of the hospital receptionists.

I spent the better part of my surf seeking day looking for Hem's Funnel Cloud today. Not a good thing when you yearn for something so bad. Every page has a good review, every page has a picture; but no zShare, no sendspace, no mediafire, no RAR NO FUN I SAY. So I give to you, my prettys, Hem's Funnel Cloud in all its multi orgasmic Sharebee glory. Thanks to Asim who put up with my relentless pushing the link-ness-ish-tude.

"...For the Brooklyn based Hem, what you initially hear is what you fall in love with—soft melodies, delicate instrumentals, and quiet, detailed musicianship that seems destined to be duplicated over a career..."

Funnel Cloud is the fourth album by folk rock band Hem. I Considered the band's most ambitious work to date, they recorded the album accompanied by a 21-piece orchestra, as well as James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins.

The concept was conceived on the day of lead singer Sally Ellyson's wedding, during which the party had to evacuate to storm cellars due to a number of tornadoes that touched down in the area.

Track listing
1. "Almost Home"
2. "Barcarolle"
3. "The Burnt"-Over District
4. "Curtains"
5. "Funnel Cloud"
6. "Great Houses of New York"

You can now download lots of Dye Corduroy Mp3s from http://dyecorduroy.4shared.com

For the insolent ones, Dye Corduroy is my baby. And with more than 60 new songs I've yet to lay down, this space shall be the bohemian whorehouse that shall overcome the military masturbation that your life has become. One song at a time.

Last night I saw a Natalie Portman movie Goya's Ghosts. I seriously recommend this movie to any and all who like 19th century an 17th century movies set with the masteries of modern cinema. Natalie Portman in the last 3/4ths of the movie is ravishingly brilliant in her projection of a jaded, paranoid, tormented soul... I won't give away more.

Chronology Methodology

Along the autobahns of wasted mileage with colliding causeways of amiss, times passed me by. Here is a feeble attempt to catch up:

Feb 25th: Mr. Dye C got engaged. Please say hello to Mrs. Dye C

Erm, thats about it: I have been recording a lot of english songs, the last few being At Your Meridian, Darla's Summer, The Broken Dream Collective, Masterplans and Mezzanines.

FUH-REAK

Go to www.myspace.com/dyecorduroy and give them a spin... BDC and Masterplans will be uploaded there shortly.

And THAT was my huge update...

Try not to *dwell* on it.

The Shepard of My Despair (mp3 post)

Without any further delays let me unleash the two new tracks upon you feeble fumbling critters.

P.S. - If the songs are not downing, please head to the Dye Cordroy MySpace page to download the new tracks: www.myspace.com/dyecorduroy

Darla's Summer is a slap-yo-momma/alt-country-ish ditty while At Your Meridian is a velvety-dystopic-love-song. Very different in styles.

Lyrics - Darla's Summer

Hey Darla come on out, come on out let's play
I'll shelter you from daylight; pushing into greys
You don't have to walk on water; don't have to stray
I'll pick you out some peaches; we'll run around till late

And all the while you are here
The shepard of my despair

And Theresa's endless summer has ended
And Theresa's endless summer has ended

Did someone say I loved her? Nah: It must've been the wind

Hey Darla seven up, touch me and i'm there
I'll paint the green of envy; breach the atmosphere
Hey Darla kiss the sunshine; poison all the queer
Your lips whisper trembling, apocalyptic fears

You raise the bar and i'm there
Gangway coz' i'm coming up for air

And Theresa's endless summer has ended
And Theresa's endless summer has ended

Did someone say I loved her? Nah: It must've been the wind
Conceive the perfect murder; the alibi you bring

The soul has colossal impossible blackholes to tame
With sunspots and planets that have never been named
You spin like a wheel in the face of a careless mistake
The stars in your eyes; revolve; evolve and refrain

Lyrics - At Your Meridian

I know lately; we seem to be flying
But I've been thinking with a straight mind
Swear i'm thinking with a straight mind
Consequently; things have been fine
I've been walking down a straight line
Swear I'm walking down a straight line

These have been the only words that I wrote
You have been the only truth I spoke
Mine has been a lonely kind of road
Will you take a drive? Will you take drive?
Will you take a drive?

I've had waited, all of this time
To sing about the world on decline
In the panoply of these lines
You have baited, now reel in my rhymes
For you i'd rather steal the sunshine
At your meridian of fair crimes

This has been the only thought in my head
Will you run or will you play instead?
I will chase you down the palisades
Won't you be mine? Won't you be mine?
Won't you be mine?

All day long, all i hear is how happiness disappears
But I know if you stay, you will persuade my fears
In your world, i would be - the only war of peace
And I'd stand, take the fall - be the timbre of your speech

Pledge my Grievance to the Flag

If the cyclops dreams of yesteryear were any indication: it's really become a boggy marsh or political peasantry. It's a shame. Start digging underground to kick in the ostrich's face. FEH !

This is just a sick sad carousel ride that I will be continuously throwing wrenches in the works of. I shall be uploading the two new tracks "At Your Meridian" and "Darla's Summer" come next post.

p.s. I am back (for the 13th time).

Lines, Longitudes and Laments ... (Mp3 post)

So then, the new Dye Corduroy track is finally up. Download it, read the lyrics, read the post-mortem and dilly-dally it in your aural minefield. It's called Inn Lakeeroan Mein... and this is its eulogy:

Originally written on an acoustic guitar in 2004 and recorded last month. In the key of F#min. Classified as alterna-rock in-yo-face-urdu that your mainstream bands yearn to create :P

Verse 1: This is the part where the character in question, being commented on by yours truly in third person is seeking refuge in the lame shadow he himself casts; ignorance ... then he goes on to dive in the sea of cynicism by criticizing the map of his own body, mind and soul... the card that was dealt to him and not realizing that he is the one who has to play the hand. The pallisades of the distance ahead muddled by many like himself, in and around eachother. An orgy of self-knit illusions.

Chorus: He has left out his dreams to yellow in the sun. I want him to find solace and shelter in the words that he has forgotten ... i want him to search for answers in his past so that the future is not a mirage of hope and thus faded glory but a fortress of fortitude.

Verse 2: This verse mainly describes the norms of the society and the government and the authorities and the mentors and the teachers and the architects of the disarray ... they have made you a slave to their own set traditions, and fate becomes the looming and impending cloud of doom that spews fire on the ignorant. Ominous. Those very norms that became the follies of the soul... and engulf you and me in hatred.

This person is you. This person is me.
And in the bridge/outro I confess and call myself as witness and as victim and as tyrant:
Bridge: I confess I have nothing, just lies and false anticipations. But I do have dreams, and I want someone who can dream with me...

All lyrics, music, vocals and foreplay by Adil Salik.

Tomorrow On The Runway ...

Today’s favorite pre-fix is: CIRCUM

You don’t have to peel your eyes to see how circumstance has circumcised the circumscribed architects of moral misdemeanors without giving an aorta of a chance to circumvent the inertia of impending doom.

In other news: watch this space for a link to download the new Dye Corduroy track Inn Lakeeroan Mein

Taipei Dreams

Taipei Dreams
Originally uploaded by DyeCorduroy.
Furiously quivering airports of Taipei were serene with the industrial lull of the din of the modern machines and the crisp air. Not moreso else was I reminded of the contrast than at the point this picture was taken ... at the Tryst in Vegas.

Mirror on the strip

Dart for my Sweetheart

This ephemeral Friday was marked with a corporate goulash of dwindling sensibilities and lechery beyond treason. You tend to find out so much about people is so little time. They do their own strip-show in front of an audience and the sight is so godforsaken that on a good day you would bleed with empathy but not today. Not this Friday.

I will here onwards be chronicling my US trip with photos and little anecdotes about Vegas, Oakland, San Francisco and San Diego.

The set presented here above are scenes from the Vegas strip – its way over the head yet people, pimps and playthings congregate to resonate in collective orgasm amidst the lights, glitz, glamour and the dollar shops down the strip. The Wynn, the Venetian, the Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, Treasure Island, MGM, Monte Carlo and what not. Civil structures of civil fuckdom. Enjoy.

Pissed off at the Vistas

What good is it to be so disarmingly pretentious that you cannot even admit to your own self that you've finally found happiness - or are you going to pretend to be bored with it? That WOULD be the fashionably sensitive thing to do --- FEH
